Since the release of Assad brothers' CD recording of works by Scarlatti, Rameau, Couperin and Bach, repertoire transcriptions of pieces that were originally for harpsichord have become a staple of the guitar duo repertoire. The music of these French masters works so well for guitar because the method of sound production is very similar in that sound is produced from plucked strings. In the harpsichord, sound is created by a complicated mechanism; in the guitar - just fingers and nails.
